Description
A masterbuilt classical guitar built before the war in Schönbach, most likely by one of the most prominent luthiers of the Mettal family, Anton Mettal (the guitar is not signed, but the style of work, measurements, the incredibly high degree of meticulousness and all individual details and choices of materials together shows an incredibly high degree of similarity to some other similar instruments made by him, in particular when compared to Anton's guitars made right before the war). The guitar combines a Viennese-style bolt-on neck and floating fretboard ending protruding above the soundboard (features originally coming from Stauffer's Legnani model, but also ones which became well-established in the given region of manufacture), zero fret and features typical of Torres' Spanish classical guitars (fan bracing and a scale lenght of 650 mm). The back is made from one single piece of truly outstanding figured maple.
The guitar is very well preserved, especially considering the fact that it spent decades accompanying its owners on various adventures sailing the Bohemian rivers and generally went through a lot of times when it could have perished easily.
